When we were kids he would chase us around & play in the backyard with us. He showed me how to milk a cow, gave me my first puppy. Took us out mustering – had us helping in the yards. Made me clip his toenails! Showed me how to drive – I do mean that literally – one day he told me to drive the ute back up to the shed. I was 8 and he figured there were no trees about I could hit and I bunny hopped my way there.
I cannot thank Dad enough for giving me such responsibility and with such confidence in me.
He and I built a tennis court together (no fence of course) and every Sunday would take us to the Nebine Centre where we had great family days, playing tennis and treasuring our fanta and packet of chips.
He always encouraged me.
One day we got bogged on the boundary of the property and Dad made the walk home so much fun. It was a six hour walk and not once did we complain, because of Dad’s positive attitude, we sang songs and made up poems.
He waved us off when we went to boarding school and ran to greet us when got off the bus to come home for holidays.
We worked in the yards together, sometimes at 2am in the morning in the heat of summer. We mustered sheep on motorbikes, we swam in the dams.
When I left school, he was and still is, always interested in what I do, and still so proud. He is one of my biggest fans and he may not know this but I am one of his! I am tearing up as I write this now because I realise I probably don’t tell him enough how amazing I think he is. I could go on and on about my Dad, so I just want to say make sure you think about all the great things your Dad does for you and make sure he feels appreciated and loved.
