  • Portraits in Mount Waverley - gorgeous Lifestyle shoot!

model portfolio shoot black and white

Whether they can admit it or not, some people just have a certain pizzaz and pow in front of the camera.  Ana, you were incredibly modest when you saw these images for the first time, and maybe even a little shy about them, but all of our team here at Katrina Christ Photogtrapher think you look AMAZING!  What I love about this photo shoot is that you don't need to be in an over-the-top studio to create fantastic results.  Photographer Natasha captured these photographs with minimal ease and fuss in Ana's home.  They were all captured in beautiful natural light and the girls had a great time playing around with different outfits to create an gorgeous fashion portfolio of classic black and white images.  They all have a timeless-ness to them, and actually remind me of images from the ever stylish 1960's era.  Ana, if I look anything like this at my next shoot I will be a very happy woman!  You go girl!

  • Hampton East Family Photo Shoot - Katrina Christ Photographer Black and White Signature Images

I had a fascinating chat with Tom about his tattoos and their meaning when I met him recently.  Tom and his wife Suzie had invited us to their family home for a Katrina Christ Photographer photo shoot where we also met their two beautiful children little Lily (just 10 weeks old… sigh!) and the very handsome Oliver.   When I first caught sight of the image above, captured by our Hawthorn studio photographer Natasha, I loved it, and Tom had exactly the same reaction (and we all had a giggle about Oliver giving Tom a kiss while Lily licked his arm!).  In fact, it has formed one of an amazing set of 6 Black and White Signature framed images that are soon to be ready for them.  Tom explained to me that the smaller tattoo indicated where he was from and that he was a New Zealander.   The larger tattoo at the top of his arm though was much more complex, and within it where tiny symbols that represented his travels, his wife, his two children, his parent, his best mate, and more.  It had been designed especially for him and had been some time in the making.   I think it’s fantastic that there are so many different artforms that we can all find meaning in, that speak directly to us of our life and family, wether this be tattoo, photography, dance, food, painting, or music.  Imagine how dull life would be without any of these!

  • Warranwood baby photos - Ruby, Ruby, Ruby!

    Melbourne Baby Photography

Introducing the divine Miss Ruby!  It's seeing baby photo shoots like this (by our very talented Hawthorn studio photographer Natasha) that make me secretly hope that my next baby is a girl!  Look at this outfit!  Although with all the shopping I'd need (want) to do for girls clothes I think my husband is hoping just as much for a boy.

Ruby was beautifully dressed by her parents Davina & Jason for her first family photoshoot.  The colour of the skirt was purposefully matched to her name, and the above images were selected as gorgeous individual canvases, and I've been told the striking colours in the images will match her nursery decor perfectly!  If you've had a shoot done in our Signature black and white range before, matching colours from a colourful Lifestyle shoot to the colour palate in your home is a fantastic idea, and such a personal way to decorate too.

Jason & Davina I bet you're super excited about recieving your artwork.  We've all absolutely loved these images; Ruby is such a gorgeous bubba - thank you for choosing us as her photographer!

  • Melbourne's newest Katrina Christ Photographer team member

    Hawthorn Melbourne baby photographer

Meet "Freddy".  Soon to be the newest - and youngest! - team member of the Hawthorn Katrina Christ Photographer studio.  Yes, call it madness, lunacy, or just sheer joy, I am due to have our second beautiful baby on July 22nd this year.  He or she will be a very welcomed addtion to our family and a lovely sibling for our son Mannus, who will soon be two years old and hopefully just as excited as we are about this baby!

Thank you to the clients who sat through appointments with me a few weeks back while I battled through the occasional bout of morning sickness!  If I had my salada biscuits and ginger beer on hand it made life much easier (apart from having to eat my way through client's appointments!).  And also thank you already to our amazing team who've had to forego sushi during our weekly staff meetings for my benefit.  It was so lovely being able to share my news with all of you so I can't wait to introduce Freddy to you in person.

I will keep all of you updated and no doubt you will see some pregnancy and family photos appear at some stage too!  Nami xx

  • Be part of Katrina Christ Photographer family cookbook!

    Katrina Christ Photographer

Katrina had this really cool idea over the Christmas Holidays!!

"Some of you know I don’t cook, however I need to stop making this as an excuse not to give my husband a break!
I need quick easy meals that are super healthy and super yummy that the kids (and we adults) will love.

Recipes that the kids can help with, maybe even low GI recipes.

I am sure most of you are super mums who manage this easily and love it.
I really struggle and I don't love it."

    So here’s our idea...

We would love if you could all email through your favourite tried and true dinner recipes by the 23/1/2012. We will then go through them to create a range of 50 different healthy and exciting meals.

Then we would come to your home to photograph you all cooking this masterpiece to go into a book.

So each family would get a double page spread – photos one side – recipe on the other. We would love if there was a story to go with the recipe eg. Inherited from grandma.

                                                                     Our aim is to

    a)      Help each other

    b)      Include the children

    c)       A fun thing to do as a family

    d)      Encourage healthy eating

    e)      End up with a gorgeous personal cookbook of yummy dinners from Melbourne families (approx cost of book $60,  yet to be finalised once quotes are in).

P.S. Recipe must be original, not a direct copy from any cookbook.

P.P.S. As you can appreciate we will need to limit how far we drive for this, and there will
               be a $55 participation fee.

We will be donating a percentage to Mercy Care (the main charity that we support)

    Much love and happy 2012

  • Baby photographs taken in your home - Mitcham

    baby melbourne newborn photographs

Anyone and everyone who has seen this image has fallen in love with it straight away!  This is baby Noah, at a wee five months of age.  Our Melbourne photographer Natasha visited his family home in Mitcham, and took this image, among other stunning photographs for parents Kelly and Richard.  When I met them here in our Hawthorn studio, it was easy to decide that this was THE image.  Noah now hangs proudly as a beautiful canvas feature piece.  Of course, we also captured a range of our classic black and white signature style images, finished with a classic framing capturing the new family of three, baby Noah, gorgeous Kelly with Noah, and handsome dad with Noah too!  We hope that you have all enjoyed a beautiful Christmas together, I'm sure Noah would have been very spoilt by Santa and understandably so!  We look forward to seeing you all again soon in 2012. • A letter on my doorstep - portraits are more than paper.

A friend of mine shared this blog with me just last week, and, as you will see too, it is just so beautiful, and so sad, that I just had to share it with you all...

There will be no portrait photos in this post.  This letter wasn’t mailed – it was at my doorstep when I got home a couple months ago.  I read it, I cried, and read it again – probably a hundred times by now.  It wasn’t easy to read – and honestly, as much as it validates what I do for a living – I wasn’t sure I was going to share it either.  If you choose to read through the letter, you will know why I’ve finally chosen to share it.

    July 2nd, 2011

    Jeanine -

Today I am writing for a couple of reasons.  I have some quiet time at the moment and need to get a couple of things off my mind.  I will leave this for my husband to deliver to you when he is ready.

You photographed my wedding, you photographed my first pregnancy and my first baby.  I contacted you awhile back to photograph my 2nd child and family.  After getting prices and realizing I would want all of the pictures as we love your work – I decided against spending $500+ – which is what I normally spend for portraits and prints with you..  Please know it is not because I don’t value your amazing eye, or how much we love the experience.

That week that I decided to NOT do a session with you, this is how I spent some money.

On Sunday I called and cancelled our session.  Monday I went out and got my hair cut ($39+tip), and colored ($65), Thursday I had my nails done ($24), my family went out to dinner at a somewhat expensive restaurant for no particular reason costing us $79 + tip.  This was just 4 days since canceling our session, already totaling over $200 for un necessary things.  My nails only lasted about 2 weeks, my hair is gone, and seven weeks passed when I got the phone call from our doctor.  It was not something I expected and the cancer has spread very quickly.  I will be leaving my husband, my 6 year old girl and my now 2 year old – not by choice.  It is very hard for me to talk about it which is why I need to write you.

I watch your Facebook page and your posts about the value of a photo and if I could give back all of those things that I purchased this few weeks after I cancelled my session with you, knowing what I know now, and have that session, well… I would do it in a heartbeat.

Now my time is done and there are no more chances for me.  The next time someone cancels a session – my wish is that you forward this letter to them.  Time is fragile, it is gone before you know you had it.  If you charged $200 for one print it wouldn’t be enough for what it is actually worth.  I cringe to think that my priorities were a manicure over a memory to pass onto my babies and husband.

My love and thanks for what you have given us from past photos.  I am so sorry that I did not see it as more than paper until now.

    Karen L.

  • Photographs for very lucky Grandparents!

     Grandparents photo shoot

How very lucky the grandparents of the these gorgeous - and hilarious - children must have felt this Christmas!  Siblings Kane & Nicole, each had their two children photographed by our very talented Melbourne photographer Natasha just in time to create a beautiful framed series for the grandparents of Hugo, Ethan, Sundaye and Mickey.  There were giggles and silly antics abound while there shoot was held here in our Hawtho studio.  It was great entertainment for all of the staff here and I'm sure to passers-by also.  My favourite image is the one featured above right, where poor Sundaye can just be seen beneath her brother and cousins - still with a huge grin on her face!  I couldn't resist sharing the two images on the left as well.   These were just three of the images that formed the amzaing framed series we helped Kane & Nicole create.  It featured twelve photographs in total - it was just way too hard to narrow down the images to any less!

We look forward to photographing the ENTIRE family at some stage soon in the future!  Nami xxx

  • Melbourne Katrina Christ Photographer team wishes you a very Merry Christmas!

    Melbourne Katrina Christ Photographer staff

What an amazing year 2011 has been!  We've photographed over 400 families, that's around 1000 children, plenty of dogs, quite a few cats, some horses, and that also definately means quite a bit of chaos - and a huge amount of fun - here at our Melbourne studio!

We really do value you all as clients and wish you all a very beautiful Christmas with your families, wherever in the world you may be.  I am lucky enough to be hosting Christmas lunch this year, with my family and a couple of Christmas-orphaned friends who are brave enough to join us!  My husband and my mum will no doubt be as happy as a pair of old hens nattering away in the kitchen and trading Christmas cooking tips!  The rest of our team will also be enjoying time with their families here in Oz, except for our very lucky Margot who is jet-setting off to New York!  We are keeping our fingers crossed that she sees a white Christmas!

We will be gearing up for yet another busy year, and the studio will reopen it's doors on Monday 9th January.  We look forward to seeing you all again and your gorgeous children (and maybe some new additions to the family for some of you!) in 2012!

  • Teenage portraits: a dash of Christmas silliness!

Meeting families with a quirky sense of humour always makes my day, and Lucy I felt right at home with you for this very reason!  Giving the new nicknames “Bin” and “Rubbish Heap” to your horses was one of the highlights!

All silliness aside Lucy, you really do have a lovely family and the love and respect you have for one another is clearly evident in your photographs.  Our Hawthorn studio photographer Natasha had such a fantastic time doing the shoot for you at your home (even despite her ‘city’ shoes getting slightly muddy in the process), and we still cannot believe that we managed to get your dog on the trampoline for a jump around!  I’m glad we have the photographic proof as I’m sure no one would believe that this actually happened.

Lucy your Christmas cards have just arrived in our studio and this has reminded me of what a pleasure the whole journey has been!  We really do hope that you’ll stay in touch… the team here at Katrina Christ Photographer is sending you a tonne of Christmas cheer!
